Is Grief counseling covered by insurance ?
Yes, grief therapy is commonly covered by insurance plans.
The amount of coverage and specific terms depend on your individual plan and whether it covers your therapist’s professional designation. We commonly see grief therapy covered through private insurance and employer benefit plans.
Many workplace extended health plans, including Blue Cross, GreenShield, Sun Life, Canada Life, Empire Life, RBC Insurance, and Manulife, provide a set annual amount for mental health services, often ranging from approximately $500 to $5,000, with some plans offering $10,000 or more.
Our designation and licence as a Registered Counselling Therapist allow us to work with clients across Canada.
Please note that a doctor’s referral may be required if your insurer requires a physician’s note or referral before reimbursing your sessions. Most plans do not require this, although some do.
We can advocate with you if you wish to request this directly from your doctor,
We offer grief counselling via Zoom for losses including miscarriage and the death of a partner, parent, sibling, or work colleague. Please reach out to us today if you are struggling with grief.
